Foundations A t-shaped, or traditional foundation, is installed in an area (like Reno) where the ground freezes in the winter. A footing is setup and poured below the frost line and then the walls are added and poured on top. This type of foundation is normally done when a structure requires a crawl space or a basement. A slab on grade foundation can also be installed in an area where the ground freezes in the winter. The difference between this foundation and the t-foundation is that a surface slab will be poured at the same time the exterior walls and footings are poured.
